vs-sonos-five-high-fidelity-home-speaker
Sonos Five High Fidelity Home Speaker

The Sonos Five is the most powerful speaker Sonos makes — a high-fidelity wireless speaker built for people who care about how music actually sounds, not just how conveniently it arrives. Six dedicated class-D amplifiers drive three tweeters and three mid-woofers in a sealed, acoustically braced cabinet, delivering the depth, scale and stereo width that smaller smart speakers simply cannot reach.

Does the Sonos Five have Bluetooth?

No. The Sonos Five does not have Bluetooth. We state that plainly because it matters, and because you will find it listed incorrectly elsewhere.

The Five connects over Wi-Fi, Ethernet, Apple AirPlay 2, and a 3.5 mm line-in. That is a deliberate design decision rather than an omission: Wi-Fi carries uncompressed, full-resolution audio, where Bluetooth compresses the signal before it reaches the speaker. On a speaker of this calibre, that difference is audible.

If you specifically need Bluetooth, the Sonos Era 100, Era 300 and Move 2 all have it. If you want the best sound Sonos can produce, this is the speaker.

Connecting a turntable or any analogue source

The Five has a 3.5 mm line-in, which makes it one of the few Sonos speakers you can plug a record player straight into.

Turntable with a built-in phono preamp (such as the Audio-Technica AT-LP120X series): set the switch to LINE and run an RCA-to-3.5 mm cable into the Five. For dedicated listening rooms and for vinyl, the pair is worth it.

You can also place a Five vertically, and Sonos detects the orientation automatically and adjusts its output to suit.

Specifications

Amplification

Six class-D digital amplifiers

Drivers

Three tweeters, three mid-woofers

Wi-Fi

802.11 a/b/g/n, 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz

Ethernet

10/100 Mbps port

Line-in

3.5 mm auxiliary input

AirPlay 2

Yes — iOS 11.4 and later

Bluetooth

No

Voice control

No microphone fitted

Stereo pairing

Yes, two units

Trueplay tuning

Yes, via the Sonos app on iOS

Orientation

Horizontal or vertical, detected automatically

Finishes

Black, White

Works with the rest of your system

Pair two Fives as rear surrounds with a Sonos Arc Ultra or Beam G2, add a Sonos Sub Gen 4 for low-frequency weight, or group the Five with an Era 100 or Move 2 for whole-home audio.
