The Sonos Ray is the compact soundbar for rooms where a full home cinema system would be overkill — a bedroom, a study, a smaller lounge, or a gaming setup. Four class-D amplifiers drive two tweeters and two mid-woofers behind a split waveguide that pushes sound outward rather than straight ahead, so the soundstage is far wider than the cabinet. Front-facing drivers mean it works properly inside a TV cabinet, which most soundbars do not.
Connectivity — stated plainly
The Sonos Ray does not have Bluetooth. It connects over Wi-Fi, Ethernet, optical audio and Apple AirPlay 2.
Wi-Fi carries uncompressed audio where Bluetooth compresses it. If you need Bluetooth, the Era 100, Era 300 and Move 2 all have it and group with the Ray in the same system.
Connecting it to your television
The Ray uses an optical input, not HDMI. An optical cable is supplied in the box, and almost every television made in the last fifteen years has an optical output. Set up the Sonos app to learn your existing TV or set-top box remote and you keep using one remote for everything.
If your television has an HDMI eARC port and you want Dolby Atmos, look at the Sonos Beam (Gen 2) or Arc Ultra instead.
